Hi!
I should be getting upgraded to multi-gig soon. The POP is being upgraded.
I currently have a Cisco ISR routing at 1Gbps and I need to change it bc it is maxed out even with the highest possible license.
I am considering a Mikrotik offering: CCR2116-12G-4S which should in theory be enough for my needs. I could also futureproof and go with CCR2216-1G-12XS-2XQ, but that's pushing my budget a bit and I really don't see myself needing more than 10G WAN in the next 5-10 years.
With that said, I pulled fiber around my floor and have a CRS504-4XQ-IN which I would like to utilize very much if possible. It's being used to futureproof my LAN and it gave me an extra SFP port because my Cisco did not have enough ports when I pulled fiber to my office. Since I will be switching routers, I would like to give my CRS504 a different role if possible and sort of use it as a pathway to 25G LAN in the future.
My home office currently has a CRS312-4C 8XG-RM which has been doing the job beautifully for a number of years. The other floor does not have fiber pulled and it's got a cat5e pulled through the wall down into the study for 1Gbps which is plenty for study/switch, TV, AP... I do not want to change that part of the house in any way.
Critical things to consider:
I have a lot of devices still stuck on RJ-45 and it's an absolute must for me to be able to utilize them, so I think I can leave CRS312 on for them.
Dual PSUs mandatory.
The router has to be able to push 10G u/D minimum, ideally 25G with SFP28 for futureproofing if such a thing exists.
Budget-wise, I'm in the 750-1000 EUR/USD range.
I would appreciate input.
