Aimovig Experience: Month 1
Post Body

TL;DR - Aimovig has cut my migraine frequency by 2/3 in the first month and drastically reduced the severity of the migraines I do get, and I have not experienced any side effects.

I've had migraines for a little over a decade and got on sumatriptan as an abortive a few years ago, which generally works for me. However, the past year my migraines were escalating in frequency and severity, and the past 6 months in particular were just awful. Between October 29 and March 17 (4.5 months), I refilled a 10-pill script for sumatriptan 9 times. That's an average of 20 pills per month. And I still felt like I was trying to ration it.

After my last sumatriptan fill in mid-March, I visited my doctor and got a prescription for monthly Aimovig injections. I'm coming up on my first refill tomorrow. And not only have I not had to refill my sumatriptan again (which I normally would've done twice by now), I have only taken 6 pills over the past month. That's more than a 2/3 reduction in frequency just in my first couple of weeks post-injection.

My worst migraine this past month topped out at about a 5 on the pain scale with mild nausea. Over the past 6 months, a 5 for pain and mild nausea was my baseline.

I have not experienced any injection site or generalized side effects. It was sore for about 20 minutes after the shot and then nothing.

I'm not here to sell you on Aimovig in particular, but I wanted to make my experience searchable for folks who feel like there's no relief and are starting to research preventives. I feel very lucky to have had such a positive experience so far and I'm hoping it continues to improve as time goes on.
