Image prompts- can you help me understand how they work?

I've been trying to figure out how Image Prompts work in Midjourney V4 now that --iw isn't supported, essentially to try to nudge the result closer to what the prompt image looks like. I've read the official documentation and I'm no closer to understanding.

Is there a way to give the Image Prompt a weight? When I try to assign the Image a value with a ::X.X tag it gets Incorporated into the image URL. Does an Image Prompt default to ::1.0, requiring that the rest of the prompts be increased or decreased accordingly?

Am I even asking the right question?! Thanks for any advice you veterans might have for me!
