First Microscope

I'm looking at a used Vanguard 1220cm that I can get pretty cheap. I'm wanting a microscope to view agar plates for plant tissue culture, mainly orchid propagation and potentially some mycology uses in the future. Would this be a good fit? Is this a good brand and model?
Also, the agar plates I'd be using would be autoclaved and I would like to keep them sterile. Are there plates I can view without opening them? Thanks in advance!
