Why did my plant top itself?

So I was originally going to ask why the nodes on this plant were growing uneven, as seen more in the 2nd picture. However today I noticed that now it has 2 tops without any sign of the main stem.
Why would it have done this? I've noticed the node issue with all my most recent batch of seeds.
