Tips on how to 100% prevent mold?
Post Body

I believe I've tried everything:

  • filtered water
  • hydrogen peroxide everywhere
  • water/vinegar mixture
  • lysol spray everything (except the seeds)
  • separate grow tent

If there's anything else to try, I've probably tried it and forgot

I just can't make it work. Every time after the initial dark period (3-4 days) I always get little spots of mold and I don't know how to keep that from happening.

Basic set up: 5x5 tent, cheap metal wire rack from home depot, plastic 10x20 trays (one to cover, one to hold the seeds), and seeds from Trueleaf or the grocery store (right now just experimenting with peas and sunflowers from trueleaf), and I've tried a variety of media for the seeds to grow on (using microgreen mats from trueleaf)

Even if the apartment I'm growing the seeds in has a mold problem, and I'm not seeing any mold anywhere, I don't know what else I can do to get rid of any spores I'm not seeing. I was the plastic trays with soap and then wipe them down with either hydrogen peroxide, lysol, or even the vinegar solution so it shouldn't be coming from the trays.

I've changed the brita filter I'm using at least once since starting, so I doubt there's any mold from the water I'm using. I've tried the dark period with the lights both on and off just in case.

And I'm positive that what I'm seeing is mold and not the air roots because it appears on seeds that haven't yet sprouted/didn't germinate quickly.

What could I possibly be missing?

What's funny is that I want to make a business out of this, but I can't successfully grow a single tray.

Edit: by dark period I mean blackout
