On the left are red storm sunflower seeds (black oil was sold out). Anyone have any experience? Is the Purplish Red color normal?

On the right, onion seeds? I know spiderweb like strands are typically just roots, but I'm seeing quite a few smaller black dots (not the seeds) and wondering if that's normal too

Substrate is this hydroponic paper stuff that swells when you add water. It's okay so far, but I'll probably switch to cococoir or a plastic molded tray
