The lids from Chinese food takeout containers turn out to be perfect for windowsill microgreen growing. From left to right, broccoli, radish, amaranthus, red cabbage, kale.
Each of those is two containers stacked on top of each other. On top is the current crop growing out. Underneath is my new seeding. The growing tray provides blackout and pressure, and I'll let them go until the new seedlings are lifting the top tray by a quarter to a half inch, and then harvest the top tray and replant and move underneath. It typically gives me about an 8-9 day rotation from seeds to harvest.
This 28-in wide window sill is currently growing pretty much all the salad greens I can eat, with a very large salad for lunch everyday topped off with bacon crumbles and craisins, supplemented by about one head of lettuce a week to add a little more crunch and structure to the salad.
