I built a more cost efficient build using the A3-mATX case to get the cost benefit of an ATX power supply, good cooler selection, and the price of the case itself. The first plan was an ITX build so I already had an ITX AM5 mobo.
Components:
7600X
Peerless Assassin 120 SE
Asrock B650E Lightning
G.Skill Flare X5 6000 CL30
ASUS Dual fan 4060Ti
Samsung 2TB M.2 SSD
Corsair RM750x PSU
3 pack of Arctic P12 Slim fans
Lian Li A3-mATX
I’ve built in mid towers and ITX cases before, so this was a simple in-between. Large enough to get your hands in but less wasted space than a mid or full tower. The build quality seems good for a stamped sheetmetal case. No sharp edges, paint application is consistent. I had one standoff for the motherboard that was mis-machined and I had to swap it with a good one. Not a big deal. The flexibility in mounting the PSU and SSD’s is nice, lots of places to mount cooling fans. Since it’s mesh all over and this is not a high power build, I just have a couple of intake fans and an exhaust fan all the mesh area for passive cooling. No glass panel to kick and shatter when it’s sitting on the floor.
The Peerless Assassin 120 SE is vastly more capable than the 7600X needs but is very reasonably priced. It looks ridiculous sitting on an ITX motherboard. The fans turn so slowly it’s effectively inaudible. The PSU is silent but the GPU fans ramp up and down and I can hear them occasionally. If it was going to be sitting on my desk close by I might do more research on a quieter GPU but for this application, it’s fine.
All in all, a straightforward and cost effective case. It’s huge compared to an 11L Fractal Terra, but it’s also ~ 1/3 the price.
