Hello lovely people of r/Mexico!
My family and I are going to Mexico in a few weeks for eight days. It's going to be me, my mom, my dad, and my grandmother, and we are all looking forward to seeing this country as it'll be our first time! To make it an even more wonderful trip, I was wondering if you would be able to help me and give feedback on my itinerary. It'll be much appreciated, for sure!
- Day 1 Sat: Fly to Mexico City. Check in at our AirBnB near Kiosco Morisco of Santa Maria la Ribera.
- Day 2 Sun: Tour around Mexico City
and Puebla City. - Day 3 Mon: More touring around Mexico City and then this time Teotihuacan.
- Day 4 Tue: Check out. Fly to Merida. Check in at our AirBnB near San Juan Park
- Day 5 Wed: Explore Merida and Chichen Itza!
Maybe Valladolid. - Day 6 Thu: Check out. Head to Cancun and check in. Valladolid for stopover? Enjoy Cancun.
- Day 7 Fri: Head to Tulum early and then to Playa del Carmen after. Another option is to take ferry to Isla Mujeres and explore Playa Norte.
- Day 8 Sat: Catch plane and head home
Any recommendations as to where to eat and what to check out? My family and I would love to explore Mexican cuisine, we are open to trying things and not just eating tacos and burritos.
Also, is it better to rent a car to get to places or rent a taxi for a day (if that is a thing) when exploring Mexico City? My dad has an international license and is confident to drive - do you think we will be okay traveling from Merida to Cancun? Any sights to see or places to stopover during that drive as it is quite long?
Thank you so much and we appreciate it! Have a great day :)
EDIT 1: Discussed things with my dad and we have decided to move forward with hiring a cab in Mexico City and then just rent a car from Merida.
EDIT 2: As much as we'd like to change our bookings to Playa Del Carmen instead of Cancun, we are stuck with our current airbnb :( We will still spend the day in Tulum and Playa del Carmen. I guess no time for Cozumel. Another suggestion I got was take the ferry to Isla Mujeres and explore Playa Norte. We'll discuss further
