A lot of people have criticized the name "Metroidvania" for being an inside term that isn't self-explanatory like other genre names, such as Real-time strategy or First-person shooter. However, all of the renaming attempts I've found are too generic, such as the name: "Action platformers." I tried to think about what makes a game a Metroidvania, and the main attribute is just having an interconnected world.
So, what if we just called them "interconnected-world games," sort of like how there are "open-world games?"
