New player, Wanna get into the books and I have metro exodus PS4

I’m a longtime fan of the first two books, I’ve owned copies of english translations since I was 15, but I’ve never had the motivation to actually finish reading the books. Now I have metro exodus on my PS4 and I’m wondering if I made a grave mistake 😅 anyone have any tips on what I should do, how to git gud? Or if I’ve messed up the order of my experience like a total noob
