Is it possible to have an unused pipe shipped from Canada to the US if it was between 2 people and not shipped from a business in Canada to a person in the US?

Wondering on the legality of having a friend in Canada ship a couple pipes to me in the US.

Does every package get opened and searched when going thru customs?

Say I bought a pipe from a shop online that's based in Canada to ship it to the US, does that get searched as well? Or are products from a business exempt from searches? (Doubt it but might as well ask)

Or is it the fact that (whether or not the pipes been used) it's paraphernalia that it would be seized and a search be conducted? If that were to happen and they just found a clean unused pipe, would I get in trouble?
