The other day I was checking around my crushing surface and found what appeared to be a not-insubstantial little shard. I was shocked, as I wouldn't think I'd be so careless with something that costs literally more than gold (where I am) and is required to live, but I nonetheless rejoiced in having discovered it.
However, it seemed to be strangely resilient against my efforts to crush it... Long story less long, that day I learned that desiccated white rice is indistinguishable to (at least my) naked eye. And going forward, if I spot any such "rice shards" among the detritus anywhere a potential crystal could have been dropped, I have to put it on my tongue just to rule it out.
