The big bad acetone wash.
This is all basic chemistry I'm aware of that. The purpose is to give you an idea of what's going on in a way that's useful to those unfamiliar with chemistry.
Not everyone has an interest in chemistry and thats okay. I just want you to know some things about the process so you have a mental framework of whats going on. I believe it makes adapting the process easier and I have nothing better to do. We gotta start somewhere.
I'm not going to leave a shopping list here as this is more theory. I just see a lot of people post about this and fail to mention very important things about working with acetone. Including one that came up in my testing that I hadn't even considered
This is not a rigid procedure. Just going through the steps and explaining the reasoning. Plus I'm going to cheat and link to a couple YouTube videos. And probably steal some other shit from people.
ALL CONTAINERS AND UTENAILS USED MUST BE CLEANED WITH SOAP AND WATER AND PREFERABLY, RINSED WITH ALCOHOL.
ACETONE IS AN ANGRY LIQUID. ITS LOOKONG FOR AN EXCUSE TO CATCH FIRE.
IM NOT SURE HOW TO START THIS, PLEASE ADVISE.
First we need a drying agent. Pick up some plain Epsom salt from wal mart or whatever. Just make sure there's nothing added. . Once you have it you need to bake it. Here's a good procedure that you can use:.
https://youtu.be/CKTjXXtv6w8?si=qS3iUTitIwcgwOAp
Basically there's water complexed in the crystals. Epsom salt is actually mostly water. Each MgSO4 molecule is associated with 7 water molecules
Its referred to as a hydrate. 7 being a heptahydrate.
You need to drive the water off with heat. You can have no mercy
Watch the video but you can alter the procedure as you see fit. Our homeless brothers could use a disposable roasting pan over a can of burning alcohol if need be. It would take great skill and much practice but you get the idea. Don't burn it it could possibly contaminate your acetone
Crush it when done. Surface area is important here. Store in airtight containers. Mason jars are cool and neat but don't store acetone in them(we will certainly get there
Selecting acetone:Most department stores sell Kleen Strip Acetone.the one In the archaic blue metal bottle. Just grab this If you can. This is what I used for testing.
Avoid nail polish remover at all costs. Unless you like bullshit in your dope. This is where alot of bittering agents are added.
Usually a compound call Denatonium Benzoate. It's interesting if you're interested. But the point here is to check the SDS to see if this compound has been added.
Google "brand name product name sds" some witchcraft will happen and you should locate a pdf or something. Damn the internet is great.
Now the bit I really want people to read. ACETONE SHOULD NEVER COME INTO C0NTACT WITH PLASTIC. YES THIS INCLUDES POLYPROPYLENE AND YOUR FLOURINATED BULLSHIT. I think people have been smoking/injecting plasticising agents here's my reasoning
So when you think of plastic you think of the base polymer. Polyethylene, polypropylene, PET etc. But that's only half the story. Most polymers in their pure form are actually quite brittle. In order to get that bendy, supple texture they have to add something called a plasticising agent.
Normally you know the base polymer by the number on the bottom of the things but very few companies disclose the plasticising agents they use.
If you do a quick Google search you'll see a few polymers that are resistant to acetone. But this doesn't take into account the plasticizers. In testing I had a polypropylene funnel and everything was going smoothly until after the wash I evaporated some of the acetone and got a film of plastic.
That was a horrifying realization. Since people probably good that PP was safe for acetone like I had. That was ending up in the dope after the rinse as it evaporated. Only in trace amounts because most of the acetone is discarded.
Okay where the fuck were we?
So you have a drying agent now you need to use it. I found a video that demonstrates what to look for. (Although a bit too quickly(
SKIP TO 5:07 for the demonstration. Or watch the whole thing to see a caffeine extraction. Why not learn something while here? That whole channel is an absolute gem

I'll try to be more helpful through text.
So I would advise using alot more MgSO4. We just want to be extra sure to complex all of the water. Knowing when it's done is the hard part..
Put some MgSO4 in the bottom of a container (Mason jar lids have a plastic ring so don't bother) then dump acetone over it.
I'll pull some measurements out of my ass:
1/2c MgSO4 baked and crushed
2c acetone
(Homeless brothers I regret to inform you the inside of soda and most soup cans is coated in a polymer. It can be burned off before use)
This is overkill for but hey its cheap shit. Swirl or shake the container with the acetone(don't spill it everywhere please) You may have to let it sit for awhile and shake it a few times depending on the how well you crushed/dehydrated it. When it's done you should get a snowstorm effect settling to a CLEAR solution. It may take time to settle depending on particle size but, PERSISTENT cloudiness is a sign water is still present. Adding more MgSO4 will speed things up if its poorly crushed.
Now to filtration. REMEMBER NO PLASTIC in testing I used a silicone funnel that seemed to work fine but I'd advise against any synthetic polymers whatsoever. Glass is the ideal choice here. But if you have too
Make a funnel out of tin foil, I know you have some. Fashion one out of those disposable baking pans by punching a hole in the corner. Whatever you gotta do. Silicone may work because the base polymer is already supple but I need to do more testing.
Your going to let the salt settle to the bottom of the container and pour out the clear acetone into a funnel with something to filter it. Coffee filters work but I just gently pack a paper towel into the stem.
Take care not to disturb the salt too much. You don't want to pour too much of it into the funnel. As the particle size can get crazy small. This means wasting some acetone. A clear solution will pass through.
Now you have dry acetone. Quickly put this back into the container it was sold in or use it quickly. It will take on moisture from the atmosphere. Remember the rules about plastic here.
Now you literally just wash your dope with acetone.
You want reasonably sized crystals here. You can recover powder but it's more likely to be lost to the acetone.
Impurities and cut will grow on the outside of the crystals. If you have one giant crystal break it into smaller pieces. Often those large crystals result from being melted to add cut.
There are many ways to do the wash. I just put the crystals in a cup, dump some acetone in and swirl it around. Then get the crystals settle into a pile in the corner and pour off the acetone. Do this slowly as to not lose the crystals. Dump the crystals onto a coffee filter and wait to dry.
Use room temperature acetone. I've seen some guides call for cold acetone. This is inadvisable. While cold acetone is less likely to steal your meff it seems to have a really hard time picking up impurities.
In testing cold acetone barely attacked MSM and thats the most financially viable cutting agent period.
Now, you shouldn't have to wait long for the acetone to evaporate if dried properly. Especially on a coffee filter. Just taste it. If acetone is still there you know.
Just put a few drips on a plate and smear it around. Watch how fast it evaporates. It is not going to get locked up in the crystals. Or just be paranoid like me and let them sit overnight(I'm not perfect)
Now you may let the meffnanagins begin.
Stay groovy people
