How do you smoke the curved (elbow / L - Bow pipes

So I recently found a plug that finally gets me what I considered clean stuff. I've noticed that the higher quality the pipe the longer it lasts and the less dope I waste. But I've noticed that in my area the best quality pipes are of these elbow varieties. What is the proper way to smoke out of these on my way to grab some stuff now and I'm curious
