Wanted to make something for railing and didn’t have any spare stems. I took some aluminum gas tubing from an old stove and connected to plastic tubing. Didn’t realize how far the heat would travel up the aluminum and start melting the plastic. I have a collection of heatsinks from various applications and it dawned on me the purpose of those things to begin with. I hose clamped it as close as possible to the plastic. The stem heats up nice, but dissipates enough near the plastic that I can actually hold it by the heatsink itself. Looks pretty cool too. I took one a little while ago and I’m more rocked than I expected. I’ll go with a shorter one next time.
