It’s really funny how much the question has been asked about a silent lighter or torch, not just on this sub but dozens of others across Reddit. Yes the candle method is the best way to go for the quietest way possible of igniting it however I know there’s those who strongly prefer a torch and searching for an absolute silent way is simply impossible. It needs that “click” as it creates the spark the leads to flame, obviously.
And so this brings me to my point: you guys are simply going about this the wrong way. Your actual best bet is to find a way to dampen/muffle the sound of your flamethrower device.
I myself have yet to find a good way to do this but in my experience, and it can be some work depending on what material you have at your disposal, but for torches you really just gotta wrap the fuck out of your hand holding the torch in whatever you can that’s thick. Towel, blanket(s), clothes of any kind, etc. etc. As for lighters this method very well could burn or catch fire to whatever your using so if you’re gonna use this method proceed with caution. You’re gonna wanna use the same type of materials but instead of wrapping your hand you’re gonna wanna “build” a tiny little fort ig out of whatever, with enough space for the flame. make it thick, and light it under said fort.
Depending on how you do it the sound is almost completely muffled to silence. Sometimes if I have a torch especially loud I’ll even stack a thick pillow on top of my arm and lean on it for extra precaution. And ofc you can also just light either as lightly as possible but we all know how the paranoia gets. Word of advice: it’s a lot louder to you than others because you’re right in front of it:) Hope this helped someone out
P.s lighters can be easily covered by doing a hard inhale through your nose like when you got a cold and and your nose won’t stop running
