Hey guys I saw a post recently as I often do about meth induced Dermatitis.
The generic tips like drink water and stay clean are true, but I did some in-depth research myself and thought I'd share for others struggling.
What is meth induced Dermatitis? Dermatitis is inflamation or rash of the skin. It can be caused by a variety of reasons such as dryness, allergic reaction, bacteria, and other skin conditions. In the case of meth it's caused by excessive dryness from sweating and allergic reactions to the byproducts left behind from meth production. Addressing dryness: 1. The main cause of dry skin and sores from meth use is excessive sweating, and meth seeping out when you sweat which is caustic. Sweat also has excessive sodium which can dry out the skin.
Wear loose clothing stay in cool environments. Prevention is key to reducing symptoms.
Hydrate consistently, electrolytes and water. Not having enough of either is just as bad as not drinking anything at all. This will help the chemicals leave your body the right way and help your kidneys filter your blood.
Shower daily, you're sweating you need it. Warm not hot water, hot water dries out your skin. Wash your bedding weekly. Wear fresh clothes daily. I know it can be a struggle, but when germs get into dry cracked skin that's when you get acne and meth sores. In extreme cases, even infection.
Moisturize after the shower. It doesn't have to be an expensive cream, just something that feels good and works. Try to avoid harsh chemicals, they'll be rough on your sensitive skin.
Vitamin E is the cure all for dry and cracking skin. You can get it by itself in a cream, coconut oil, serums, moisturizers, and countless more. Creams, oils, and serums are best they don't clog pores.
Aging skin is a different story. For fine lines and wrinkles retinol is proffered. A dermatologist can prescribe your stronger medication, but OTC tretinoine and adapalene will do better then any expensive product you can buy. They'll help with collagen production and reduce wrinkles.
Don't scratch, if you really must gently pat the area for some relief. Scratching creates a pathway for bacteria in the skin.
Need quick relief? Benadryl and other otc antihistamines may help. A doctor can prescribe stronger ones aswell. Corticosteroids will also help with itching and inflimation, such as cortizone 10. Avoid thick salves, stick to creams.
Don't exfoliate excessively dry, sensitive, or damaged skin. This will lead to infection and a world of regret pain wise even if you don't get infected.
Hope this can help someone. Stay smooth guys 😎
