Understanding CAP

Post Body
So it is my understanding that the CAP is a layer of warm air that can prevent the moist warm air at the surface from rising into the cooler, higher air to form a thunderstorm. If the CAP fails, this can exacerbate and cause storms to be worse than if there had been no CAP at all because of the buildup in the lower levels. But what keeps the CAP itself from rising into the cool dry air, or cooling off?
