Hello r/metalworking.
I have recently found out I need to adapt the engine foundation in my metal sailboat to fit a new engine. making it longer. Lower it by a few cm and making my service hatch in the bulkhead bigger.
It's all made of steel and welded to the hull.
I'd like some tips on what best to do to remake it strong and in the right place.
The bilge is quite small and the bulkhead needs to be cut out mostly to allow acces.
Would mma stick welding be strong enough for this job? I'm going to reuse the metal cut out to make the new parts and if needed I have some 8 to 10 mm steel to add as well.
