..."the wolf"?
When Snake first encounters her, the first thing she says is:
"Ah, tu m'as trouvée! C'est moi, le loup."
(Ah, you've found me! It's me, the wolf!)
When I first heard this, my first thought was "Holy s***, it's Sniper Wolf!" However, that doesn't add up at all:
Sniper Wolf was born during/after the Second Iraqi-Kurdish War, which was still ongoing at the time of the Peace Walker Incident. Furthermore, she was an Iraqi Kurd who was born and raised on the battlefield, living under fear and misery until she joined forces with Big Boss.
Cécile Cosima Caminades is French and was presumably born in around the '40s or '50s. Her primary experience of war as a child was that she had a friend whose older brother fought in the Algerian War (1954-1962). She was an ornithologist who only got caught up in the Peace Walker Incident because she was in Cost Rica preparing for a presentation at a conference about the distribution of Costa Rican bird species. She was evacuated from Mother Base in 1975, ahead of the "nuclear inspection"
Really, the two couldn't be more different, and they're probably not even related.
So... What's with her calling herself "the wolf"? Is it a reference? An in-joke? Is it just the sort of thing a French person would say after being discovered by a soldier?
Edit: I think /u/RobbertFruit has solved out mystery; it's just a French expression.
