I can pass an MMC exam on my own?

Is it possible at all for me to obtain my MMC without going to a school? I can’t afford $1000 in tuition and realistically with all the cost of what I need to get into an apprenticeship it’s going to take me a year or so to apply. I retain information well so I’m wondering if doing old test will help me at all. Since it’s going to take me so long to apply I figured I can try to make the most out of free resources. I’m trying to make this happen from pretty much nothing, is that possible or should I just find another career path? Is there an actual free option for entering this field?
