Would I be able to work as a merchant marine with food allergies?

For background I’ve always wanted to work on a ship. I applied to the navy, but was rejected because I had food allergies and anaphylaxis in the past. It’s not so bad where I react if I smell an allergen, but I do have a reaction if I accidentally eat an allergen. So would this disqualify me or would this work environment be unsuited for me? Thanks for any advice.
