US Navy to Merchant Mariner?

I'm considering joining the Navy for 4 years and then working as a Merchant Mariner in some capacity. I'm wondering if there are any specific rates I should look into that would easily transfer over to the Merchant Mariner job and make my training easier, or is it just the general day to day skills that would automatically transfer over from one to the other. Sorry if this isn't clear.
Happy to answer any questions you guys might have, and I'd appreciate any feedback.
