It’s a little like saying “how is segregation racist?” or something along those lines- it just seems self evident. It makes it seem like you haven’t thought about it at all. Think about how it impacts children, or sexual abuse, or parenthood or literally anything else. Does it make more sense now that I’ve given you a starting place?

Purity culture is almost always used as a tool of oppression. There is almost always a double standard enforced where women are seen as less valuable and less worthy if they are sexual in any way. This means that victims of rape and sexual assault are less likely to share their experiences and even if they do are seen as dirty and worthless for having been abused. This means that there is shame both internal and external for anyone engaging in sexual acts or thoughts, which as animals are inherent to our beings. It also means that more value is placed on our bodies and purity than on other aspects of ourselves like kindness, intelligence, or talent. There is so much more, but making people feel shame for things that are natural is just another way of manipulating them. I think this is a really simple concept so people might think you’re being disingenuous (and maybe you are) but if you have any questions please ask
