Does exercise really help with your mental health? And any advice for getting activity in when you struggle with mental health?

Post Body

I am a 23F and grew up in a really toxic house hold when it came to exercise and food. My mother forced me to participate in diets as early as 8/9 years old and forced me to workout as a punishment all throughout high school. She also encourage eating disorders. The topic of diets, weight, and working out make me anxious but are obviously very important factors in oneā€™s life. Iā€™m trying to eat better (not restricting but being more mindful of food that will make my body feel good and fill it with nutrients) but exercise is a whole battle. I tried the gym but it made me so anxious. I also Iā€™ve in an apartment on the second floor and have to be mindful of noises with my neighbors. I donā€™t want to be perceived while ā€œworking outā€ so going outside stresses me out too. I am looking for advice on beginner work out channels that are low impact and introductory as I get back into working out. Thanks for the help.
