Wrong size?

I am 28, I have a heavy flow, and I don’t have children. I usually wear tampons. Reading the description, I bought a size 1 Diva Cup but it seems almost impossible to put it in. I’ve never used it because of this, it seems way too big. Am I doing something wrong? Not sure if it matters, but I have had sexual intercourse before.
