Experiences with joining US Mensa or other high-IQ societies as a young child?
Post Body

My toddler's medical professionals have suggested that she is difficult because she's gifted, and to involve her in more activities for gifted children, which might involve doing cognitive testing as evidence of her giftedness so that she can be enrolled in such organizations. Mensa was one such organization that I found which includes a youth program, so I wanted to know more about your experiences or knowledge or advice on this topic. I also see that I would have to get her cognitive testing from a psychologist for enrollment in anything like this from a young age (we don't plan to enroll in school as it's not mandatory here, so I don't know if testing by a school is an option, but she's too young anyway), and I'm not familiar with that, either. All that I've found out is that testing someone very young is unreliable and expensive (about $2500 is what I was quoted), and it's not clear to me what it's even like. I can find articles about toddlers joining Mensa, but not about how they were tested, or how the organization benefits them. I'm not really looking at a cost-benefit analysis because it's still not much overall and the money isn't as important to me as her having a happy childhood, but I'm curious about the benefits of the overall experience.
