I remember back in the day, when HWY was a thing, meets were a thing and people could actually get around in a modified car and feel relatively safe from HWP and the police.
I understand police have a job to do, and I understand it’s important to keep unsafe vehicles off the road, but I’m curious if the scene is well and truly dead due to hooning behaviour.
I used to enjoy the social component, where you could park, or cruise with like pounded people after a weeks work and just have a chat until 2-3 AM.
These days I feel almost scared to take my car out, because if HWP even suspect my car has an illegal mod, it’s a real pain to prove otherwise, or get a RWC, and can be an expensive ordeal (they can always find something).
I feel like since the state of the economy has hit a low, it feels like revenue raising behaviours have increased, therefore, rubbing the face of the car scene further into the ground. (An example of this, would be a close friend of mine who has a slightly louder exhaust than factory and rims, and got a defect notice in the mail by Prahran HWP when he went to get groceries with his gf.)
I remember when there were fund-raising efforts, huge amounts of people getting around good causes, and relatively innocent fun - ruined by a small minority from the skid scene.
Anyway, am I missing something here, or is it just gone?
(In before, not saying the police are the issue, just the state culture towards even slightly modified cars and enthusiasts is beneficial to gov’t bottom line.)
Not a pity post, just exploring if the culture is still there.
