What should I do if someone else has unpaid fines and I’m now using their car?

So basically I’ve just got my Ps, and I’ve been driving my sisters car as she’s not in Melbourne. However she’s only just told me she has unpaid fines, and will lose the registration of the car by the end of the week. What should I do?

She’s saying she will try and do a social worker program instead of paying the fines (around 4 thousand dollars) I have no clue how that works or if it even works at all.

My dad said if I were to get a roadworthy and register it in my name it might cost me a few grand and a few weeks for the mechanics to make sure it’s roadworthy. So now I’m not sure what to do. Should I just buy a new car or spend the money on the roadworthy? Or just wait for her to do something?

I was super excited to finally have a car but now I probably won’t be able to use it. Although I get it for free I guess I’ve got to pay at some point.
