Otters in Melbourne ? What could I be mistaking it for ?

Post Body

So about two weeks ago I was hanging at Princess Pier in Port Melbourne, when I thought I saw an otter come out from under the pier and cruise around near the rocks at the shoreline. It was about 12am and I watched it glide through the water untill it eventually perched itself on top of a rock that was sitting out of the water. After a couple seconds, it slid back into the water and continued swimming untill it disappeared under the breakwater.

Fast forward to this week and I still havenā€™t been able to shake some sort of feeling about this ā€˜otterā€™ I saw. So today I decided to do a lil bit of ā€œspeedyā€ research and within minutes realised that otters are native to everywhere but Australia and Antarctic. Since learning about this , Iā€™ve been looking at other animals that are found in Melbourne that I could of mistaken it for and I JUST CANā€™T! Iā€™ve compared photos of otters with the local animals such as possums etc but the body shape and features just donā€™t match. I canā€™t find a image that comes close to what I saw other then that of an otter. ( The animal I saw had a long skinny slim body, flat head and swam through the water the way I had seen them at Melb Zoo only a few weeks before)

Yes sorry this isnā€™t really that important in the scheme of everything haha but itā€™s driving me a little insane as I canā€™t stop thinking about it. Anyyy sort of info would be swell !!
