I've been admitted to medical school in Canada and my grandparents (and myself, admittedly) are over the moon. They want to buy me a watch as a gift. Is there a watch (or similar graduation / admission gift) that's stuck with you for your career?
I'd like to pick something that isn't too valuable that it might be stolen from my locker, but something that I can keep clean and carry with me. I considered asking for a stethoscope but I've read on here that they tend to "walk off".
What do you think of a locket, pocket watch, ring or necklace? Any concerns about those that I should consider?
Worst case scenario, I will just ask for something that will stay at home. But I'd like to have something that will be with me wherever I go. Preferably something I can have engraved.
Edit: I'm not a very sentimental person with a lot of mementos. However, my grandparents are both in poor health so I feel that this is important to me.
