Medicare Advantage Plan - Denyed new enrollment outside open enrollment period.

I'm on SSDI. My two-year waiting period is up on June 1 and I become eligible for Medicare.
I went to the Medicare site and signed up for a Medicare Advantage plan. Today I received a denial because I'm outside the Open Enrollment Period (Oct 15 - Dec 7). I was under the impression that since this was a new enrollment at my first eligibility that this EOY Open Enrollment did not apply.
What do I need to do to fix this?
