Real talk, why do people really go an MPH and MBA?
Post Body

Hi,

I do not want to offend the people who pursue these Masterā€™s because they are truly interested. It seems as though people obtain an MBA/MPH in place of a a research year, because not all research years are paid (well). So it would make sense to enroll into a program so you can still take out loans for living expenses and do research alongside your masters course work. But is it worth getting an accelerated masters at the expense of taking on an additional year of tuition?!?!!!!

and in the end, do people actually use their M degree? I know everyone has a different goal in medicine, but how does one actually use the MBA and MPH to their advantage? Personally, for the tuition reason stated above, I will wait on my masterā€™s once i get a job in academia so iā€™ll have an advantage on tuition.

I see some applicants saying how the degree with really help them with ā€œxā€ and I admit I may have a narrow perspective, but how will that degree help from a physician standpoint? education and awareness is great, but at the end of the day for a clinician we donā€™t have time utilize 100% of our knowledge due to time constraints.

I can clearly see how an MBA would be useful for a physician going into private/group practice
