Post Body

I'm an IMG who's currently interested in general surgery. Currently working on my USMLE scores, research and work experience. Would taking a preliminary surgical year help me get a categorical position? I mean I get it that preliminary surgical spots are there to fill in vacancies that may arise in the program later, however, if that doesn't happen, would taking a preliminary surgical year be beneficial in any other way? Can I apply to other surgical programs in the match after the preliminary year?
