So I'm studying vocal performance, and the biggest issue I've had in my voice lessons is not getting enough breath support while singing, i.e., breathing to the bottom of my diaphragm and 'expanding'. One thing I've done for the past three days is wrapping an Ace bandage around my stomach and lower ribs, to give more resistance to that expansion, so I'm doing it more passively, rather than having to do it consciously. It's not terribly tight, I feel no loss in circulation, and I've had no added difficulty breathing since I started. I'm also not folding any fatty tissue over itself (I've seen results of trans men doing this on their upper chests while binding without access to a proper binder), and I'm paying attention to any changes that occur, which I haven't noticed any so far. Is there anything about this that screams, "THIS IS A TERRIBLE FUCKING IDEA, TAKE THAT OFF YOUR FUCKING CHEST RIGHT NOW!"?
Thank you!
