I have never been a fan of longer socks that cover the shin. I usually donāt wear socks or I have no-shows or loose fitting ankle socks. Recently, since the weather has gotten colder, I have been wearing longer socks with my boots. I have a TERRIBLE pain in my left front shin kind of to the side (touch the toe next to your little toe and run your finger up to the shin area and thatās where the pain is). I have been walking up to 7 miles a day for almost two or three months now (sometimes with my dog, sometimes without- not that this matters, I just wanted to mention him because heās a good boy), so there isnāt any ānewā activity that I can think of. The only real thing that has changed are my socks. They are longer socks- not gym socks per-se, but sometimes ācold-weather socksā or long socks that have designs on them that are popular. They are tight fitting and when I take them off, there is a ring around my leg where the āmouthāof the sock was. I have pretty good calves, they are pretty muscular. Am I cutting off the circulation or is this just shin splints or something else? The pain is only in one shin and I have never had this kind of pain from shin splints. There is no bruising or swelling (that I can tell). The pain hurts the most when I lift my foot bending at the ankle or when I point my toe. I canāt tell if itās in the muscle or the bone. Could I have fractured my shin? Is it a blood clot? Iām pretty active, so I am ruling out the blood clot, but Iām not a doctor. If I had to gauge the pain, I would say itās about a 6 at its worse. Should I go to the urgent care?
