Is it possible to be allergic to a vaccine?
Post Body

Hello all, I'm hoping you can help. When I (32F) received the Hepatitis B vaccine as a child my mother told me that I broke out in severe hives all over after the first dose and never received the others. I have no memory of this. I now work in a field that is high risk for contracting Hepatitis and I would really like to protect myself against it.

Some important information: my mother is anti-vax and has been known to embellish the truth or flat out lie and convince herself it's what really happened. She has diagnosed myself and others with allergies and illnesses that turned out not to be true at all. Honestly if I didn't have such severe sensitivity to being around Chick-fil-A I would suspect she made up my peanut allergy too.

Is it likely I just had a normal, mild reaction and I would be fine to get the vaccine now? Or is it possible I grew out of the "allergy" and can get the vaccine? Should I just go get it and see what happens? (with warning to whomever is administering the vaccine, obviously). I've been putting on my medical questionnaires for YEARS that I'm allergic to the HBV vaccine... And it never occurred to me to question it until now.
