5+ years with no sense of smell, and then all of a sudden I can smell EVERYTHING!
Post Body

So some background - about 5 years ago (age 28) I battled with recurring bronchitis, and was also diagnosed with asthma. My sneaking suspicion is that I brought the respiratory issues on myself because I had taken up vaping in an effort to quit my occasional stress smoking (less than a pack a week) but it may not even be related... I quit within a month of being diagnosed and only vaped about a year total.

About 6 months after my diagnosis, I started having this thing where everything smelled like cigarette ash. I go to the doctor, and she says it's a sinus infection and gives me a z-pac. The burning smell stops, but then I can't smell anything at all.

I check back in and am told to give it time, because sinusitis and all.

Well fast forward to last fall and I get pregnant! I get small wafts of smell occasionally, but nothing lasting or the hypernosmia that some women complain about. At this point, I've resigned myself to no sense of smell at all for.... Well.... Ever really.

To the now (age 33): 2 ish weeks ago, everyone in my house tested positive for Flu A. I take my tamiflu and rest up and recover. We've been in quarantine since then, and I haven't left my house since the 11th.

Last Saturday, as I'm cooking dinner, I realized I could smell the onions I was frying... Then the bread baking. My deodorant. My teenage son's lack of deodorant. A candle. My cat's litter box.... Literally everything I've been living with for 5 years that I should be nose blind to, all of a sudden out of nowhere I can smell.

There's been a few little medication changes, aside from the tamiflu. I had been on Zoloft for post partum depression, but recently started taking Addyi so the zoloft was dc'd, since Addyi is technically an antidepressant that just happens to work on sex drive too.

I'm suspicious of it being the zoloft dc, because I'd gone off during my pregnancy, and I lost my sense of smell prior to going on it in the first place. Could it be the addition of Addyi, or possibly the tamiflu? My doctor is at a complete loss, so what gives?

I'm interested to hear theories and will answer any additional questions to clarify. Thanks all!
