Likely engine oil leak onto spark plug? Looking for diagnosis help

Post Body

2001 Ford Econoline e-250 4.6L v6! (Yes, lived in, yes, so cute)

We’ve been having an issue with the #5 spark plug needing to be replaced every ~5 hours of driving. Our best hypothesis is we need to replace the valve cover gasket. We went to a garbage mechanic and asked him to do exactly that, and after four hours of diagnosing that it wasn’t other stuff he said it was probably that, but he couldn’t do it. Thanks a lot for the help….

Anyways, he recommended a bandaid fix of oil thickener, which increased our driving time on one plug by about double. Plug looked like this when we pulled it out. With my limited mechanic knowledge, this looks in like with an oil leak onto the plug, but I’d love advice and diagnosis, just visually.

Changing the plug, as usual, fixed the misfiring and sputtering completely.
