What do you expect us to do for a drop off?

Post Body

Typically, most mechanics I've gone to offer waiting. However, I just recently inquired about a repair and their master tech only does drop offs. Do mechanics assume we have extra cars? How do I get to work when you have my car all day with no expectation of even actually getting to it?

Edit: this is for a $75 diag for a/c. I love in rural/suburban USA. A 15 minute Uber from the shop to my house one way is $40. So my $75 diag is now $155. Obviously I respect mechanics (I can tell by all of your replies you don't feel that way from everyone) but if I'm scheduling something, shouldn't that mean you're doing it when scheduled? A hypothetical example in my world that feels the same. (This doesn't actually happen.) I'm in finance. A client comes to me for a financial plan. I tell them I need full access to ALL of their money for an undisclosed amount of time starting tomorrow. They can't keep any money because I need it all for the plan. I'm not exactly sure how complicated their situation is until I dig into it. But to make that even more complicated, I'll just throw it on the pile of others that I promised and hopefully get to it when I can. How do they cover their expenses? If, as a mechanic, you're scheduling an appointment for my car, any reasonable person would assume that means you're working on it at that time.
