Thick lees in first 12 hours?
Post Body

I started 5 1-gallon batches last night and the results are unexpected this morning.

My two dry batches are showing signs of fermentation but there's little to no activity from the three semi-sweet using Safale US-05. The least active one already appears to have a very thick lees - maybe an inch or 3/4".

This seems excessive. Could the yeast packet I used have been a dud? It was kept cool and the date on it was in November.
