I've been wanting to do this for some time, but I finally started my first batch of mead. I'm a beekeeper, so it's always been something people have talked about, but most beekeepers I know are commercial, and sell their honey bulk, and don't actually use much of it. I made cider for the first time this year, and it turned out great, but I'm really excited for this.
Recipe
11 lbs 3.2 oz sunflower honey
3.25 gallons water
1 liter yeast cake from wild yeast cider
4 tsp nutrients
1 tsp energizer
FG: 1.102
I mixed 9 pounds honey with the water, then mixed in my nutrients, Energizer and starter. Added more honey til I got to 1.102. was shooting for 1.1, but ah, close enough.
