Hello,
Last night I was staring at a few bottles of mead that have been left basically untouched and will probably remain that way for a few years and reflecting on what I did wrong.
The idea was great, add tart cherry and blueberry then later rack onto vanilla bean and orange zest. All of my favorite things in one.
When the day came that I added vanilla and orange zest I could instantly smell my mistake.. and now the mead has an unmistakable visit-to-the-dentist-office/toothpaste/tooth sealant taste and smell.
Ever since, I have been a believer in brewing on the ones...
Anyways, I found that vanilla bean and orange zest are a no-go together, or with tart cherry.
Anybody else have any ingredients that sound like a great idea together but should never be paired? Anybody else have a last-second brilliant ingredient idea that would bring their mead together but instead ruined it altogether? Am I just silly?
