Returning this summer on 7/22 is going to be the second annual Stormheron Mead Comp.
https://entries.stormheron.com/#
This comp is a lot different than most current mead comps as it is free to enter, has significant cash prizes for winners, and judging is based off drinking pleasure rather than a score sheet. A slight haze or an adjunct that is a little hard to find in aroma or flavor will not be considered a negative.
Please help keep this comp free by making sure your entries are able to make it in, and take down an entry if it looks like you will not be able to ship in time. 3 entry limit, no more than 2 per category.
Drop-off and shipping will be at a local business in Minneapolis. I am ironing out details on how many locations we will have available, and will have the website updated shortly.
The awards ceremony will be a live streamed event that is a direct elimination in two separate brackets, Dry Meads and Sweet Meads. Each are a bracket of 32. Dry mead will be judged first. 750 mL of mead is required to make it to the end of the bracket, and it may come in a single bottle or multiple. In the event of damaged bottles the submission will still be judged from any remaining bottles. Carbonated meads will be served chilled on ice, as well as any other meads as requested. Otherwise meads will be served at ambient temperatures. Please make sure any chilled meads have their labels well protected from water, usually by putting entry tags in a plastic bag and securing the bag to the the bottle.
We've learned a bit from the last one and have a few improvements for rewards, judging and bracket structure. Looking forward to trying everyone's mead again.
Let me know if anything is goofy on the entry forms, setup was a bit different from last year.
