I'm a sophomore biochemistry major at an atypical research-intensive liberal arts college, and I have been working in a molecular toxicology lab at my school for nearly a year. I read many posts here about people publishing papers, especially as 1st and 2nd authors, in relatively respectable journals during their undergraduate years, and I'm curious how you guys could do that. What were the steps that you did to publish a paper as an undergraduate because when I talked to some professors at my school including my current research advisor they mainly agreed that most undergraduate students lack the in-depth knowledge to be able to publish a thorough and in-depth paper? Also, some people mentioned here that one can work on review articles for publishment as an alternative during this time as wet-lab research is mostly inaccessible. Though that sounds like a good plan, I don't know where to start because again I feel like as an undergraduate I don't have such an in-depth knowledge of any topic to be able to write a good one.
