With Rev 10 fast approaching, (or at least the end of Rev 9), itâs about time to start talking about the cities for next rev. Let me introduce Discordia! It will be a futuristic utopian themed town located on the top of the nether, above spawn portal. I know, we canât technically claim land right now, but itâs a new idea, and we hope people wonât try to take the land.
Now, we recognize that there are a few issues with this, and we have been working on them. You might have some questions. A town on top of the nether? How would that work? Hereâs some thoughts.
Farms: with 1.4, mobs will be able to move through portals, so weâll have no trouble with a mob farm. In terms of food, weâre hoping the mods will help us out and let us have a bit of water for the necessities (molon, wheat, etc), but if not we have another solution. We will be coupling with the UMC, which also plans to build in the nether, in the building of a giant overworld farm next to spawn. Now, we know that having a farm through a portal isnât the same as a farm in the city, but we think the upsides outweigh the downsides.
Beds: Yeah, we know. Beds explode in the nether. But we have a solution to that too. Have your bed near the farms! We will be building what will amount to a giant overworld bedroom, which will conveniently wake you up right next to food.
Materials: this is the biggest issue weâve come across, as you canât really mine in the nether. Weâre encouraging players to build and mine in other towns as well as ours.
We will be having a large map room in the center of town with the usual world map, but with a twist. We will also be having a plot map, showing simply the taken and not taken plots.
We may or may not be implementing an alternative to CARTS designed by Random. Itâs in the test phases, but we will let you know. If itâs not ready in time, weâll just build a CARTS.
We also plan to introduce some âundergroundâ tunnels in order to help navigate the town better.
We may or may not be having a large chest room in the center of town to discourage players from building tiny houses and basically using them as storehouses (I was guilty of that this rev).
We will be an independent, neutral town welcoming players from all towns. None of this intercity-alliances crap. You like our town? Come on over! Have a look!
The rules of building are fairly simple: Donât derp. We would prefer that you keep to the theme of our city, but if you build a nice-looking, off-theme building, we wonât fault you or it. Builds found to be derpy by general definition by several players/mayors may be subject to demolition/repossession.
Unlike most towns, we plan to not be laying out plots in the usual fashion. You will lay out the plot for yourself. We will have a standard size and arrangement for the plots, but you wonât have to dick around while a mayor finds or makes one for you. Just find an empty space and talk to a mayor before making it, so they can work out if itâs possible before marking it on the map room. Plots must be built though; we are not making the town on the bedrock itself. Instead we will make plots anywhere from 5-15 blocks off the ground to make subways and basements possible. While this may be slightly dangerous, we hope it will provide a bit more freedom to players, instead of being forced to only go up. If you feel like you need more space than general plot sizes allow, talk to a mayor. The mayors may also be helping out extensively with the UMC, which will also be built in the nether. We are not affiliated with the UMC in any way other than the possible overworld farms, but keep in mind that theyâre nice, and will be below us.
