So the last time one of these was done was Feb 2013 so another may be overdue.
Issues.
1) Catch-all Threads. In a previous thread it was indicated that a significant number of people were unhappy with the number of repeat question posts from incoming students. Since then we have been trying to remove those posts and have them answered in a catch-all thread. Are you happy with the way this has been done? Is it an improvement? Would you like to see any changes?
2) Moderation policy. Previously we attempted to get a moderation policy in place but it really didn't take off and some people in the community voiced their opinions that they thought it was unnecessary. Currently the only things being removed are posts harassing members of the community, slurs, spam (not freshmen questions actual spam), and threads actively seeking drugs/study aids/ help cheating. Thoughts? Suggestions? Complaints?
3) Bans. Historically the only things that have resulting in bans were drug seeking accounts, harassment and slur usernames. These accounts have nearly without exception been first time posters, novelty accounts etc. Recently the accounts of /u/mcgill_circlejerk and /u/polishsausage2 were banned. The reason for this was some relatively insignificant harassment of the mods, coupled with a post seeks drugs, culminating with the thing that lead to the ban, a fake Tariq Khan IAmA (all occurring within a relatively short window of time). The modmail regarding the ban is here.
4) Under the hood in case anyone is interested. Traffic stats. Ban list. Mod log in brief.
5) Comments/suggestions etc. Any suggestions? For example I spoke with /u/myfishwillkillyou last year about getting a couple of IAMAs from someone at McGill Mental Health. It was something we wanted to do last year but didn't get around to but may be something we could do next year. Any suggestion on how to make the subreddit more useful would be appreciated.
