So, I noticed this post, questioning the recent actions of the mods, and how those mods became mods.
As it has been a ~year since the mod team got expanded I figured, motivated by procrastination, that I would remind everyone how things came to be, as well as give everyone a peak at the mod activities.
How the mods were chosen
The mods were chosen by David following a request for volunteers last year, the mods he picked were in general those that had, out of their own initiative, volunteered earlier (relevant thread).
Current moderation policy
After the current mods were picked there was some discussion of how the subreddit should be moderated, and the community voiced a desire for a hands off approach to moderating, thread 1, thread 2.
Two months of mod logs
Usually the subreddit is pretty quite and in general the mods are very very very hands off. The logs only go back two months, but those months have been fairly representative. Partially redacted, the last two months of mod activities and traffic stats can be found here.
